Have you bought your Big Issue?

Posted May 12th, 2008 • Category: Big Issue News • By Alan Attwood

The Big Issue is a general interest magazine sold by vendors
around Australia. It is not a political magazine, a religious magazine or a
magazine aligned to any cause or campaign. It is a magazine with a national
readership that is both fast-growing (up 10% last year) and remarkably
diverse. It is read by teenagers; also read by people in their 70s… and
above.

Our contributors come from all age-groups and demographics. They, and
a small core of regular contributors, help put together a magazine that aims
at being lively, interesting, provocative, entertaining… and seldom dull!
We are also proud to showcase the work of some of Australia’s finest
photographers and artists. Each new edition - sales of which directly assist
all our vendors - is put together by a tiny Editorial team. We have a
full-time staff of… three and a legion of dedicated part-timers. Somehow,
we pull off the loaves-and-fishes trick every two weeks!

The knowledge that we are part of an absolutely unique publication helps us to meet each
deadline. At a time when, supposedly, print is a dying medium each new
edition of The Big Issue proves that some publications are very much
alive.
