Cooking at William Angliss

WI1Eight of The Big Issue’s vendors and street soccer players had the opportunity to cook up a storm with chefs from the William Angliss Institute, Melbourne’s best known training provider for the food industry.

The idea was to teach the cooking skills to create a meal using affordable everyday ingredients.

The chefs guided 2 groups through preparing and cooking pumpkin soup, spaghetti bolognaise, roast chicken, roast lamb and roast vegetables, cauliflower cheese, and garlic and herb bread.

Eating healthy nutritious food is one of the most positive things you can do for yourself. One of the vendors reflected that the day helped her find skills she had forgotten because of mental illness. Everyone was surprised that such delicious meals could be made from a few simple ingredients.

One of the highlights was sitting together at the end of the day and tucking into the fruits of their labour.

Many thanks to Gordon Talty and the chefs at william Angliss Institute for getting this project off the ground and making it such a special day.
