Tropic Thunder picture of Geelong teamOn August 21, more than 100 people attended a special screening of ‘Tropic Thunder’ at Village Cinemas in Geelong, to raise awareness of the issue of homelessness and raise funds for the Melbourne 2008 Homeless World Cup.

Among the audience were players from The Big Issue’s Geelong Street Soccer Program, who since February this year have been attending weekly training at Steampacket Gardens.

Geelong Coach Steve Sodomaco kicked off the night by explaining the benefits of the street soccer program and introducing the players from the Geelong program, many whom have experienced homelessness at some point in their life.

The night was a huge success and succeeded in raising almost $500 for the Melbourne 2008 Homeless World Cup, being held from 1-7 December at Federation Square and Birrarung Marr.

A big thank you to Village Cinemas for donating movie passes and Gold Class vouchers, and to the Sheraton Hotel for donating some delicious buffet breakfast vouchers as prizes.
