Slumdog Millionaire – Special free screening for friends of The Big Issue

Posted Nov 14th, 2008 • Category: Big Issue News • By Anna O'Brien

slumdogposterAs a special pre-Christmas treat, the lovely folk at Icon Films have offered a number of FREE preview screenings around the country for Big Issue readers and friends to experience the new film, Slumdog Millionaire.

From award winning British filmmaker Danny Boyle and written by the Oscar nominated writer of The Full Monty, Slumdog Millionaire is based on the award-winning book Q&A by Indian writer Vikas Swarup and received the 2008 Cadillac People’s Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival.

Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India’s ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’ Arrested on suspicion of cheating, he tells the police the incredible story of his life on the streets, and of the girl he loved and lost. But what is a kid with no interest in money doing on the show? And how is it he knows all the answers?
