Fiction lovers are being treated to a special edition of The Big Issue this fortnight with the release of the magazine’s fifth short-story edition, bringing together established and emerging writers.

The Contributors:

Established writers include Cate Kennedy (widely regarded as Australia’s leading short-story writer), Debra Adelaide (author of the Orange-longlisted bestseller The Household Guide to Dying), Alice Pung (author of the memoir Unpolished Gem). We also feature a sneak peek at Andy Griffiths & Terry Denton’s follow-up to The Bad Book: a cheeky graphic short story. Don’t miss award-winning young-adult author Penni Russon’s first foray into adult fiction. Penni has published several works of young-adult fiction, including the Undine series. Her first novel in the Girlfriend Fiction series, Indigo Girls, has sold more than 10,000 copies.

Our emerging writers are Jo Bowers, Annie Condon, George Dunford, Rebecca Starford (deputy editor of Australian Book Review) and Louise Swinn (editorial director of Sleepers Publishing). All of these writers have had their short fiction published extensively in other outlets, except Rebecca Starford. Rebecca’s literary criticism regularly appears in The Age and The Australian. This is her fiction debut.
