Partnership Case Study: Origin Energy
The Partnership
Since 2005 Origin Energy has proudly been behind The Big Issue, showing their support across the country and enabling The Big Issue to transform the lives of homeless and marginalised people.
Origin generously supply the vendor uniforms on a national scale. The uniforms, including the brightly coloured vests, red hats and winter coats are a trademark of The Big Issue vendors, helping them stand out in the busy city crowds and as a result, sell more mags.
From serving food at the fortnightly Vendor BBQs to inserting flyers into thousands of copies of The Big Issue magazine, Origin staff members have had the opportunity to contribute in a very real way through the Employee Engagement Program.
The Reward
The positive results are three-fold – The Big Issue receives valuable hands-on support, Origin employees interact with vendors and learn first-hand about homelessness in Australia, and both vendors and staff can break down the stereotypes that surround homelessness and learn about each other’s lives.
Throughout the year Origin employees are encouraged to develop creative ways to show their support. Some of these have included a national shoes and socks collection and a Winter Collection for scarves and gloves. Handover events then take place across the country and the vendors are given some tangible items that make their job selling The Big Issue magazine a little more comfortable, whatever the weather may be.
Origin employees have taken part in the Street Soccer Experience, playing alongside our Street Soccer players and witnessing the power of sport to change lives. Many employees also give generously through the Workplace Giving Program which provides on-going funds for The Big Issue and enables us to continue our life-changing programs.
For their fantastic spirit of giving and willingness to lend a hand – on a national scale or something as small (and extremely helpful) as borrowing their Boardroom – The Big Issue are incredibly proud of our partnership with Origin and look forward to seeing where we can take it well into the future.
