Senators vote homelessness a Big Issue
In June, Politicians joined in celebrating a big milestone: In South Australia, 250,000 copies of The Big Issue sold by over 500 vendors!
South Australia Politicians Natasha Stott Despoja, Dana Wortley, Nick Xenophon, Cory Bernardi and Sarah Hanson-Young donned The Big Issue uniform and became Big Issue vendors for the afternoon.
After receiving basic training, the senators stood on regular Big Issue pitches on Grenfell Street, Rundle Street and Rundle Mall to try their hand at selling The Big Issue magazine.

Homeless, Not Artless
On June 16th, there was a performance at Carlton Courthouse Theatre of some of Melbourne’s Big Issue Vendors and Friends presenting work produced from writing and visual art workshops.
The workshops have been conducted by industry professionals, including acclaimed Melbourne writer and storyteller Arnold Zable; Alan Attwood, editor of The Big Issue; performance poet and writer alicia sometimes, and artist Jeanne Browne.

The Big Issue is a general interest magazine sold by vendors
around Australia. It is not a political magazine, a religious magazine or a
magazine aligned to any cause or campaign. It is a magazine with a national
readership that is both fast-growing (up 10% last year) and remarkably
diverse. It is read by teenagers; also read by people in their 70s… and
above.
Our contributors come from all age-groups and demographics. They, and

Do a Favour
The Big Issue in Brisbane is kicking off its first Do a Favour Day on Friday 9 May 2008 in Queen’s Park on George Street in the Brisbane CBD from 7.00 am.
Do a Favour Day is a fun day with the people of Brisbane doing favours for one another. The aim is to create generosity, goodwill and a sense of community within Brisbane as well as raise funds and awareness of The Big Issue and homelessness in general.

300 Editions of The Big Issue
12 years after it’s launch in Melbourne, The Big Issue is going to be releasing it’s 300th edition on Thursday 20th March.
We will be holding a big Easter vendor breakfast in celebration and Origin energy will also be there to give our vendors a gift of a pair of runners!
