Bring it to the table
A dining room table featuring a painting of veteran Brisbane vendor Raph is one of a number of artworks to be auctioned as part of the Brisbane Youth Week celebrations (28 March – 5 April).
The auction will be held on 4 April at the main stage at Reddacliff Place and will include four tables by Kimberley Lysons – each representing a charity. Money raised for the auction will go to these four charities, including The Big Issue.
The writing workshops are back!
The Big Issue’s Arts Project has returned to Melbourne again in 2009 and will focus on writing and digital storytelling with the talented folk from ACMI.
We are currently looking for a volunteer to scribe for one of the vendors participating in the workshops. If you are available from 2-4pm, every Wednesday from April 8 to May 6, have sound writing and typing skills and preferably your own laptop, then please contact Mari at The Big Issue today on mari@bigissue.org.au or 0447 679 053.
WA Big Issue Open Day
Learn how Australia’s most successful social enterprise, The Big Issue, provides creative solutions to the issue of homelessness. The Big Issue Perth will hold a morning tea on Wednesday April 1, where the public can hear first hand the stories of those that have turned their lives around by selling The Big Issue and learn how the Street Magazine enterprise operates.

Deputy Editor visits Big Issue Japan
Like any really good idea, The Big Issue magazine has spread – globally. Since 1994, when the first Big Issue appeared on the streets of London, around 11 different Big Issue magazines have sprung into existence – each with a unique regional flavour.

Gimme Shelter
On Saturday February 21 the annual Gimme Shelter concert was held at the Fremantle Arts Centre in Western Australia.
An audience of around 2000 people enjoyed free performances by musicians such as the Spirit of the Streets Choir and headlining act John Butler.

The Big Issue is resurrecting its fiction edition, with a mix of emerging and well-known writers. Previous fiction editions have featured stories by writers such as Christos Tsiolkas, Michel Faber, Alexei Sayle, Shane Maloney and Cate Kennedy. Head down to the Docklands for the Street Soccer State Champs!
Teams of marginalised and homeless Street Soccer players from across Victoria will unite at Waterfront City at Melbourne’s Docklands this Sunday March 22 for The Big Issue’s Street Soccer State Championships.

Homeless Not Artless Performance Receives a Standing Ovation!
The Big issue vendors and friends presented a moving showcase performance at ACMI Cinemas after the first day of football action at the Melbourne 2008 Homeless World Cup and received a standing ovation from an emotional audience.
